When purchasing your Garmin map, here's some information to help you decide what is best for
you, your hunting needs, and your wallet!
The TOPO map series provides detailed topography including terrain contours, elevations,
geographical points — even 3-D terrain shading on compatible devices (Astro 320 does not
support 3-D terrain shading). All TOPO series maps include the following features:
Garmin recommends the Topo 24K maps for the Astro 320 Handheld. The reason for this is the
Topo 24K provides much more detail than the Topo US 100K AND, the Topo 24K takes up less
memory on your Handheld than the Topo US 100K.
What's the difference between the Topo 100K and the Topo 24K?
The Topo 100K will provide you with navigational details of all 50 U.S. States. You will not get
fine details like dirt roads and things like that, but, you will have streets, towns, geographical
points, etc... You will get the finer points of outdoor recreation (national parks, etc...) but not
things like dirt roads. The Topo 100K will take up alot of the memory on your Astro Handheld
device since it will download information for all 50 U.S. States. The scale size for the Topo 100K is
1: 100,000 USGS.
The Topo 24K is the highest level of topographical detail. The Topo 24K is divided into regions
(North, Northwest, etc... see regional maps for each Topo 24K in the table below). Each region
covers a certain number of states (ex: West covers California and Nevada). The Topo 24K will give
you typical topographical and geographical information, however, it will also include finer details
such as small towns, dirt roads, etc... The Topo 24K will not take up as much memory on your
Astro 320 handheld and you can purchase several Topo 24Ks so you have detailed and custom
information for each region that you hunt. The scale for the Topo 24K is 1:24,000 USGS.
All Topo 24K maps come with an SD card and SD Card Adapter (the adapter is not required for
the Garmin Astro 320 handheld).
